The apparatus for the bending test of pliable conduit according to IEC 61386-22, Clause 10.4.103 (and Figure 101 in the standard) consists of a device designed to manually bend the conduit sample at a controlled angle around a specific former.

Bending Angle: The apparatus facilitates a bending angle of 90°.
Rollers/Formers: The test uses rollers (formers) with specific radii, depending on the nominal size of the conduit being tested. Common sample specifications for the rollers include 48 mm, 60 mm, and 75 mm radii, which correspond to certain conduit sizes (e.g., 15 mm, 20 mm, and 25 mm respectively).
Mounting Mechanism: The design allows the conduit sample to be fixed vertically on the bending tester while the roller is rotated to perform the bend.
Operation: The process is typically performed manually and slowly to ensure control during the test procedure.
The general procedure involves fixing a conduit sample (often 30 times the nominal diameter in length) vertically and bending it 90° to the left and then back to vertical, followed by 90° to the right and back to vertical. This full back-and-forth action is one operation, and it is performed four times consecutively. The sample is then bent 90° to the right and held for five minutes. After the test, the sample is inspected for any cracks or undue distortion, and a gauge is used to check that the minimum inside diameter has not been compromised.
