755nm is the optimal wavelength for melanin absorption. Based on the selective photothermolysis principle, it acts directly on melanocytes inside hair follicles to thoroughly destroy follicles. It delivers powerful hair removal results and works exceptionally well on fine and light-colored hair, such as facial hair, upper lip hair and regrown hair after repeated depilation.
For darker skin tones, the epidermis and target tissues share similar chromophores and compete for laser absorption, which may lead to heat buildup on the skin. By contrast, it achieves superior outcomes on fair skin. With customized parameters, this wavelength creates a mild physiological thermal effect on basal melanocytes, long-term inhibiting melanin production and brightening the skin.
810nm Wavelength
The 810nm diode laser features even energy distribution and strong tissue penetration. Following the selective photothermolysis principle, it targets melanin in hair follicles to damage follicular structures and realize effective hair removal.
Similarly, it carries a risk of epidermal heat accumulation on dark skin due to competing laser absorption between the epidermis and target tissues. It performs best on clients with lighter skin.
1064nm Wavelength
This wavelength offers deep penetration, long pulse width and a wide range of energy density. It suits all skin types, especially Fitzpatrick skin types IV to VI, and works for all hair colors except white hair.
Two Key Concepts: Pulse Width & Thermal Relaxation Time
Pulse width refers to the duration of a single laser emission.
Thermal relaxation time means the time required for the target tissue to cool down to half its peak temperature.
To avoid damaging surrounding tissues, set the pulse width longer than the thermal relaxation time. To destroy target tissues like hair follicles, set the pulse width equal to or shorter than the thermal relaxation time.
The thermal relaxation time of human skin is 3–10 ms, while that of hair follicles is 40–100 ms. Thus the ideal pulse width for hair removal ranges from 10 to 100 ms. For darker skin, select a pulse width above 30 ms as such skin has a longer thermal relaxation time.
