SS 1.4539 pipes, also known as UNS N08904, are composed of high chromium, nickel, and iron content, providing superior corrosion resistance, strength, and toughness. The low carbon content, along with copper and molybdenum, contributes to excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. This material is well-suited for environments requiring resistance to elevated temperatures and high corrosion levels.
The high chromium content promotes and maintains a passive film that protects the material in many corrosive environments. 1.4539 has greater resistance to precipitation of ferrite and sigma phases during cooling and welding compared to other molybdenum-containing stainless steels like 316L and 317L. There is no risk of intercrystalline corrosion due to the low carbon content. Maximum service temperature is 450°C.

1.4539 offers good formability and weldability characteristics due to its low carbon content. It provides excellent toughness and strength at both room temperature and elevated temperatures, along with superior fatigue strength even after prolonged exposure to high temperatures.

This steel exhibits good ductility and excellent machinability, making it easy to work with during fabrication. It also features excellent thermal expansion properties, making it suitable for cryogenic environments or high-temperature applications where thermal shock may occur.
