Heat Treatment Processes
Annealing of 65Mn Spring Steel
Slowly heat to 730°C and allow sufficient time for thorough heating, then cool slowly in the furnace. 65Mn tool steel will achieve maximum 250 HB (Brinell hardness).
Hardening of 65Mn Spring Steel
Heat uniformly to 830-860°C (1526-1580°F) until completely heated through. Allow approximately 30 minutes per 25mm of ruling section, then immediately quench in oil.
Tempering of 65Mn Spring Steel
Perform tempering at 540°C. Soak well at the selected temperature for at least one hour per 25mm of total thickness.

Applications
65Mn steel, after heat treatment and cold drawing hardening, exhibits high strength with certain toughness and plasticity. In surface hardening cases, it achieves fatigue limits comparable to alloy spring steel. However, it has poor hardenability and is mainly used for smaller size springs such as speed regulating springs, load springs, round and square spiral springs in general machinery, or as pull wire for small mechanical springs.
