S31254 254 Smo Material 254 Smo Stainless Steel Plate
254SMo is an austenitic stainless steel developed for use in halide-containing environments such as seawater. This steel demonstrates superior performance particularly in halide-containing acids and features good resistance to uniform corrosion. With carbon content below 0.02%, it is classified as pure austenitic stainless steel, and when carbon content is less than 0.01%, it qualifies as super austenitic stainless steel.
Features of Inox 254SMo
Super stainless steel is a special category of high-alloy stainless steel containing elevated levels of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum. The 6% Mo content in 254SMo provides exceptional local corrosion resistance, including excellent resistance to pitting corrosion (PI ≥ 40) and stress corrosion in demanding environments such as seawater, aeration, gaps, and low-speed scouring. This makes it a viable alternative to nickel-based alloys and titanium alloys.
254SMo offers superior high-temperature resistance and corrosion resistance compared to standard 304 stainless steel. Its metallurgical structure consists of stable austenitic organization, ensuring reliable performance in various applications.
Extensive field testing confirms that 254SMo maintains high crevice corrosion resistance in seawater, even at elevated temperatures—a property shared by only a few stainless steel types. In acidic solutions and oxidizing halide solutions used in paper bleaching, 254SMo demonstrates corrosion resistance comparable to the most resistant nickel-based alloys and titanium alloys.
The high nitrogen content provides 254SMo with enhanced mechanical strength compared to other austenitic stainless steels. Additionally, it offers high ductility, impact strength, and excellent weldability. The elevated molybdenum content results in higher oxidation rates during annealing, producing a slightly rougher surface after pickling than conventional stainless steels, though this does not compromise corrosion resistance.
Environmental Protection: Flue gas desulfurization for thermal power generation, wastewater treatment
Energy: Nuclear power generation, comprehensive coal utilization, ocean wave power generation
Petrochemical Industry: Refining, chemical equipment
Food: Salt production, soy sauce brewing
High Concentration Chloride Ion Environment: Paper industry, various bleaching devices
