431 is a martensitic stainless steel known for its high strength, good corrosion resistance, and moderate toughness, primarily alloyed with chromium and nickel.

- Chromium (Cr): 15.00–17.00%
- Nickel (Ni): 1.25–2.50%
- Manganese (Mn): 1.00% max
- Silicon (Si): 1.00% max
- Phosphorus (P): 0.040% max
- Sulfur (S): 0.030% max
Mechanical Properties (annealed condition):
- Tensile strength: ≥620 MPa
- Yield strength (0.2% offset): ≥430 MPa
- Elongation: ≥20%
- Hardness: ≤235 HB (brinell) or ≤99 HRB (rockwell)
