42CrMo4 +QT Steel (1.7225 Material)
42CrMo4 material (1.7225 steel) is an European standard alloy steel, the delivery condition of this steel is mostly tempered and quenched, it has high strength, high toughness, good hardenability, temper brittleness, high fatigue limit, good impact resistance after quenching and tempering, and good low temperature impact toughness. This steel is suitable for the manufacture of large and medium-sized plastic molds requiring a certain degree of strength and toughness, transmission gears, rear axles, load-carrying connecting rods, spring clips and oil deep well drill pipe joints.
42CrMo4+QT means this material is in the quenched and tempered condition (+QT).

Material 42CrMo4 Heat Treatment
Quenching temperature: 820 to 880 ℃ (Austenitizing period: at least 30 min; Quenching agent: Oil or water)
Tempering temperature: 540 to 680 ℃ (at least 60 min)
End quench test: 850 ± 5 ℃
42CrMo4 Equivalent Material
42CrMo4 material (1.7225 steel) equivalent to US ASTM AISI SAE, Germany DIN, British BSI, France NF, ISO, Japanese JIS and Chinese GB standard. (For reference)
42CrMo / 4140 Steel Round Bar is used to producecomponents with high requirements on toughness, e.g. gear wheels, pinions, connecting rods, parts for mechanical engineering .
Heat treatment
Forging
Heat to 1150°C. Hold until uniform. Minimum forging temperature 850°C.Cool slowly in ashes or sand etc.
Annealing
Heat to 830°C-850°C.Cool in furnace.
Normalising
Heat to 870°C-900°C.Cool in still air.
Stress Relieving
Annealed: Heat to 600°C-650°C.Hardened: Heat to 500°C-550°C.Cool in still air.
Hardening
Heat to 830°C-880°C. Quench in oil or polymer.
Tempering
Heat to 450°C-700°C cool in still air. NB. Tempering within the range 200°C-420°C will result in temper brittleness and should be avoided.
