Stone finish electrolytic tinplate is produced by electroplating tin onto a steel substrate that has been cold-rolled with work rolls bearing a controlled surface texture imparted through shot-blasting or electric-discharge texturing (EDT). After electroplating and flow-brightening, the stone finish imparts a characteristic dull, finely textured surface with controlled roughness typically in the Ra 0.35-0.60 µm range. This controlled surface topography provides distinct functional advantages for industrial applications where surface friction characteristics, lacquer adhesion performance, and consistent coating application are critical quality parameters. The T4 temper (TH415, HR30T 61 +/-3) offers an optimal balance of strength for structural applications and formability for component manufacturing processes.

Packaging & Quality AssuranceStone finish tinplate coils and sheets are packaged with care to preserve the surface texture characteristics. Materials are wrapped with interleaving paper to prevent metal-to-metal contact, protected with VCI corrosion-inhibiting wrap, edge-protected with fiberboard rings or plastic guards, and secured with steel strapping on fumigated ISPM-15 compliant pallets. Quality assurance includes surface roughness measurement using calibrated stylus profilometry per ISO 4287, peak count determination per ISO 4287, lacquer adhesion testing using cross-hatch per ASTM D3359 and pull-off per ASTM D4541, coating weight verification by coulometric analysis per ASTM A630, and mechanical property testing per ASTM A370 including tensile, hardness, and Erichsen cupping tests. Statistical process control data including CpK analysis for surface roughness parameters is maintained for each production campaign with fully traceable documentation provided to customers upon request.
