Type 410 is a martensitic (not ferritic, but included under A268 for tubular products) stainless steel.They are a standard choice for feedwater heaters, oil & gas tubulars, and mechanical components where operating conditions are well-defined and not highly aggressive. Always consult corrosion and materials engineers for specific service environment suitability.
In summary, the engineers sacrifice superior corrosion resistance and formability (which austenitic grades offer) in exchange for mechanical durability and lower cost. Only choose 410 if the environment is mildly corrosive (not marine or highly acidic).
Key Characteristics of Stainless Steel TP410 Tube:
Martensitic Structure: Can be hardened by heat treatment (quenching and tempering).
Magnetic: Yes, strongly magnetic.
Corrosion Resistance: Moderate. Good resistance to atmospheric corrosion, fresh water, mild acids, and alkalis. Not suitable for severe corrosive environments (like chloride-rich settings where pitting can occur).
