ASTM A249 TP304 stainless steel welded tube is a welded austenitic stainless steel tube made according to ASTM A249/A249M, using TP304 stainless steel. It is produced by roll-forming stainless steel strip into a tubular shape and welding the longitudinal seam. The tube is normally annealed, pickled/passivated, sized, straightened, and tested. It is designed mainly for use in heat exchangers, condensers, boilers, and superheaters, where good corrosion resistance, heat transfer, and high-temperature service are required.

For heat exchanger tubes specifically
ASTM A213 TP304 seamless — used when high integrity, high pressure/temperature, or critical service is required.
ASTM A249 TP304 welded — common for heat exchangers, condensers, and boilers; welded but fully annealed and eddy-current tested.
ASTM A269 TP304 welded — general-service tubing. It can be used in low-pressure/non-critical heat transfer, but it is not the dedicated heat exchanger standard. For ASME/code heat exchangers, A249 or A213 is usually preferred.
