High Corrosion Resistance: PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) = 33–35. Excellent resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) – where 300-series austenitic steels often fail.
High Strength: Allows for thinner tube walls, leading to:
Reduced weight of the heat exchanger bundle.
Improved heat transfer efficiency.
Lower material cost per unit of strength.
Thermal Conductivity: Higher than austenitic stainless steels (approx. 15 W/m·K vs. ~12 for 316), improving heat exchanger performance.
Low Thermal Expansion: Closer to carbon steel, reducing thermal stress at tube-to-tubesheet joints.
