The embedded fin structure is manufactured by machining grooves on the outer surface of the base tube and mechanically inserting aluminum fins into the grooves. This process creates a strong mechanical bond between the tube and fins, improving heat transfer efficiency while maintaining reliable performance under continuous operating conditions.
ASME SA179 is a commonly selected material for heat exchanger tubing due to its excellent thermal conductivity, smooth surface finish, and suitability for low and medium temperature heat transfer applications. AL1060 aluminum fins offer high thermal conductivity and lightweight characteristics, making this combination suitable for air cooler applications where efficient heat dissipation is required.
The embedded fin design increases the external heat transfer area significantly compared with bare tubes. The aluminum fins improve air-side heat exchange capability, which is especially important for air coolers where air-side thermal resistance is usually the controlling factor.
Unlike simple wrapped fin tubes, embedded finned tubes achieve a mechanical connection through a machined groove and inserted fin structure. This design helps maintain good contact between the tube and fin during thermal expansion and long-term operation.
