Steel purlin profile design
A C Purlin is a horizontal structural support member with a cross-section shaped like the letter "C". It is a key component in a building's secondary framing system, designed to support roof and wall panels and transfer loads to the primary structure
C purlin often combines these characteristics:
Shape: It has a distinctive "C" shape, consisting of a web, flanges, and lips, which provides structural stability and strength .
Material Grade: It can be manufactured from high-tensile steel with a yield strength of G550 (550 MPa) . This provides excellent load-bearing capacity while allowing for a lighter weight than conventional sections .
Structural Standard: The steel can also conform to the ASTM A572 Grade 50 standard. This is a high-strength, low-alloy structural steel with a minimum yield strength of 345 MPa . The "Grade 50" indicates its yield strength.
Coating: To protect against corrosion, C purlins are typically made from hot-dip galvanized steel. A common coating designation is Z275, which refers to a zinc coating mass of 275 g/m² . This offers durability in various environments
