ASTM A213 T9 is a seamless alloy steel tube specifically engineered for high-temperature service in boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers. It falls under the category of ferritic alloy steels and is valued for its superior creep strength and oxidation resistance under prolonged exposure to heat and pressure.
This product conforms to the latest ASTM A213/A213M-24 standard, which defines the specifications for seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy-steel boiler, superheater, and heat-exchanger tubes. The standard size range typically covers tubes with an outside diameter (OD) from 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) to 5 inches (127 mm) and wall thicknesses from 0.015 to 0.500 inches (0.4 to 12.7 mm). As a seamless tube, it is manufactured without a welded seam, ensuring uniform strength and enhanced safety in critical pressure applications.
ASTM A213 T9 is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel, often referred to as a 9Cr-1Mo type steel. This composition gives it a series of advantageous properties:
High-Temperature Strength: Excellent resistance to deformation (creep) under stress at elevated temperatures.
Good Oxidation Resistance: The chromium content forms a stable oxide layer that protects against scaling in steam and flue gas environments.
Thermal Stability: Maintains its mechanical properties during long-term operation in high-heat conditions.
To achieve these properties, the tubes are supplied in a heat-treated condition, which typically involves normalizing and tempering processes.
