This specification covers both seamless and straight-seam welded pipes made from duplex stainless steel grades. The seamless variant, manufactured through hot or cold rolling processes, is known for its structural homogeneity and reliability under high pressure. The S32205 grade, commercially known as 2205 duplex stainless steel, offers an optimal balance of properties and cost.

Material and Key Characteristics
S32205 duplex stainless steel features a microstructure consisting of approximately 50/50 mixture of ferrite and austenite phases. This dual-phase structure combines the best attributes of both:
From Ferritic Stainless Steel: High strength and excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking
From Austenitic Stainless Steel: Good toughness and ease of fabrication
This synergy results in a material that offers nearly double the yield strength of standard 300-series austenitic stainless steels while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance, especially in chloride-containing environments. Its high strength often allows for thinner wall designs, contributing to weight and cost savings in piping systems.
Heat Treatment: To achieve and maintain this balanced microstructure, the pipe undergoes mandatory solution annealing heat treatment at 1020-1100°C (1870-2010°F), followed by rapid water cooling. This process ensures dissolution of detrimental phases and homogenizes the structure.
