This product is a seamless tube manufactured from nickel-iron-chromium alloy UNS N08825 (commonly known as Incoloy 825), produced in strict compliance with the ASTM B163 standard.
The ASTM B163 specification defines the requirements for seamless tubes made of nickel and nickel alloys specifically designed for use in condensers and heat exchangers. The latest published version is ASTM B163-22. The standard covers tubes with an outside diameter of 3 inches (76.2 mm) and under, with corresponding wall thickness requirements.
This general specification works alongside other ASTM product standards. In case of any conflict, the specific product specification (e.g., for alloy N08825) takes precedence over the general requirements.
UNS N08825, or Incoloy 825, is a nickel-iron-chromium austenitic alloy enhanced with molybdenum, copper, and titanium. This sophisticated composition is engineered to deliver exceptional corrosion resistance in a wide range of demanding environments.
The alloy's key characteristics include:
Excellent resistance to corrosion in both oxidizing and reducing acids.
Superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking and pitting/crevice corrosion in chloride-containing media, making it ideal for seawater and chemical process applications.
Good mechanical properties from cryogenic temperatures to moderately high temperatures.
The addition of titanium stabilizes the alloy against sensitization (intergranular corrosion) during welding or high-temperature exposure.
