ASTM A312 UNS S30815 Seamless Steel Pipe - High Temperature & Oxidation Resistant Tube
ASTM A312 UNS S30815 Seamless Steel Pipe - High Temperature & Oxidation Resistant Tube for Heat Exchanger, Furnace, and Petrochemical Applications | Yuhong Group
Industry Leadership & Core Supply Capabilities
Yuhong Group Co., Ltd. operates as a specialized manufacturer of critical heat transfer equipment and pressure containment components. Our facility holds ASME U, CTI, and TS certifications for pressure vessels, supporting the production of shell-and-tube heat exchangers, air coolers, and fired heaters. We are recognized for our technical authority in high-temperature heat exchanger tube applications—particularly in refinery furnace convection sections, reformer outlets, and ethylene cracking service, where tube reliability directly impacts unit uptime.
Beyond finished tube supply, we provide integrated bundle manufacturing services, including U-bending, finning, and complete tube sheet / baffle / channel fabrication. This enables strict dimensional interface control from the tube to the full exchanger bundle.
Chemical Composition (ASTM A312 UNS S30815)
The alloy's elevated-temperature strength and oxidation resistance derive from its controlled balance of chromium, nickel, and nitrogen with rare-earth additions. The composition complies strictly with ASTM A312 Table 1 requirements.

Manufacturing Requirements & Testing Protocol
Under ASTM A312, seamless S30815 tubes are produced by hot finishing or cold finishing processes. The following controls are mandatory:
Heat Treatment: Solution anneal at 1040-1150°C followed by rapid cooling to preserve the fully austenitic structure and nitrogen in solid solution.
Testing Per Standard: Flattening test, flange test (for sizes ≤ NPS 6), hardness test, and hydrostatic test (or nondestructive electric test per ASTM E213/E309) are performed on each tube.
Dimensional Tolerances: Outside diameter, wall thickness, and straightness are checked against ASTM A312 Table 3 and Table 4 to ensure fit-up with tubesheet holes and baffle supports.
Critical process note: Post-forming (U-bending) requires solution annealing again unless performed in the fully annealed condition and with a bending radius ≥ 3× O.D., per recognized pressure vessel rules. Our in-house bending operation controls ovality and wall thinning within ASME Section VIII allowable limits.
Matching Fabrication Capabilities & Material Grades
We supply S30815 tubes integrated with complementary components:
Component
Material Compatibility & Grades
Tube Sheets / Baffles
SA-240 304/304L, 316/316L, or S30815 plate
Channels / Heads
SA-516 Gr.70 (low-temp carbon) or SA-240 304H
Fittings & Flanges
A182 F304/F316 - welded or forged
U-Bend Tubes
S30815, 304H, 321H, 347H, Alloy 800H/825
All matching components are designed under the same ASTM/ASME standards to avoid galvanic or thermal expansion mismatch at elevated service temperatures.
Application Scenarios
This seamless pipe is engineered for sustained operation in:
Fired heater / furnace radiant and convection coils - process heaters, reformer tubes, cracking coils.
Shell-and-tube heat exchangers - where inlet process temperature exceeds 650°C.
Air cooler bundles - in high-temperature overhead condensing services.
Waste heat recovery units - including pigtail tubes and thermowells.
Technical Advantages, Key Features & Custom Services
Oxidation resistance: The Si and Ce addition promotes a tightly adherent oxide scale, reducing spalling during thermal cycling (tested per ASTM G54 at 1100°C).
Creep strength: The fine dispersion of nitrides provides higher 10⁵-hour rupture stress compared to 304H in the 650-900°C band.
Fabricability: Excellent for hot bending, cold drawing, and welding (GTAW with matching ER308LSi filler).
Custom services: We offer fixed-length cutting, U-bending with radius tailored to TEMA R/C/B, and bead-blast / pickling passivation for enhanced cleanability.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What is the maximum continuous operating temperature for S30815 seamless tube?
A: In oxidizing atmospheres, service up to 1150°C intermittently, and 1100°C continuously, provided tube-wall stress remains below the ASME allowable stress for this grade.
Q: How does S30815 compare to 304H for heat exchanger service?
A: S30815 offers superior oxidation resistance and higher hot strength due to its higher Si and N content. It is preferred where high-temperature creep is a design concern, while 304H remains suitable for lower cost, medium-temperature duties.
Q: Does UNS S30815 require post-weld heat treatment (PWHT)?
A: No - due to its fully austenitic structure and controlled ferrite level (< 5 FN), PWHT is not mandated by ASTM or ASME for most services, but it is advisable to normalize after heavy cold forming.
