Scope: The standard covers seamless tubes designed for service in boilers, superheaters, and heat-exchangers.
Size Range: Typically, tubing conforming to this standard is available from 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) inside diameter to 5 inch (127 mm) outside diameter, with wall thicknesses from 0.015 to 0.500 inches (0.4 to 12.7 mm).
Key Feature: The "L" grade (low carbon) is specified to minimize carbide precipitation during welding, ensuring long-term integrity in welded assemblies.
The chemical composition of TP304L is carefully controlled to ensure its corrosion resistance and weldability. The key is a maximized carbon content to prevent chromium carbide formation.
