ASME SB444 N06625 (UNS N06625 / Alloy 625 / Inconel 625) is an austenitic superalloy pipe with a nickel-chromium matrix and solid solution strengthened by molybdenum and niobium. It is technically equivalent to the ASTM B444 standard. Due to its extremely high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and good machinability, it has become the material of choice for critical components in many advanced industrial fields. Its outstanding high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance make it particularly valuable in aggressive, elevated-temperature environments.
The ASME SB444 standard specifically addresses cold-worked seamless pipes and tubing, covering UNS N06625 and its variants, and is a key basis for the application of materials in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Pipes under this standard are classified into two grades according to their heat treatment state to suit different working environments:
Grade 1 (annealed): Suitable for conventional high temperature resistance environments up to approximately 593°C (1100°F), with balanced high temperature resistance strength and corrosion resistance for continuous service.
Grade 2 (solution annealed state): Suitable for high temperature resistance conditions above 593°C (1100°F) where higher requirements are placed on creep and fracture strength. This grade delivers enhanced high temperature resistance creep resistance while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance. The alloy's corrosion resistance extends to multiple aggressive media, including chlorides, acids, and seawater, while its high temperature resistance oxidation stability ensures reliable long-term service. In critical applications, both high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance are non-negotiable design parameters, and N06625 satisfies both simultaneously.
Annealing – Grade 1
Solution Annealing – Grade 2
Typical Applications
Oil&Gas: production piping, riser liners
High-temperature combustion systems: refinery and offshore platform burners
Chemical industry: superphosphoric acid equipment
Hot gas treatment: heat exchangers, expansion joints
Marine engineering: seawater piping systems
Waste incineration: superheater tube panels
Nuclear waste treatment equipment
Aerospace: high-temperature components
Selection Criteria
Applications requiring both high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, with service temperatures not exceeding 593°C (1100°F)
Applications where service temperatures exceed 593°C (1100°F) and long-term creep resistance is a critical requirement
