ASTM A312 253MA / UNS S30815 / EN 1.4835 Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe for Industry
253MA is a trademarked name for a high-performance austenitic stainless steel. It is designated under UNS S30815 and the European standard EN 1.4835. It is specifically designed for applications requiring excellent oxidation resistance, good creep strength, and structural stability at elevated temperatures (up to 1150°C / 2100°F). When manufactured to ASTM A312, it signifies that the pipe is a seamless or welded austenitic stainless steel pipe intended for high-temperature and general corrosive service.
You should choose ASTM A312 253MA (UNS S30815) when your operating conditions involve a combination of high temperatures, mechanical stress, and oxidizing environments where standard stainless steels like 304 or 316 would fail prematurely. Choose it if:
The metal temperature exceeds 850°C (1560°F) .
The part is load-bearing at high heat (needs creep strength).
The furnace cycles on/off frequently (thermal cycling).
The environment is oxidizing (excess air) or contains sulfur.
You want to replace 310S but save weight/money with a thinner wall.
