SUS304 SUS316L Medical Grade Stainless Steel Wire For Surgical Devices
Stainless steel 304/316L wires are widely used in medical applications due to their excellent corrosion resistance, durability and mechanical properties. While SUS304 serves excellently for many general surgical instruments, SUS316L is the unequivocal choice for any device requiring long-term implantability or exposure to the harshest in-vivo conditions.
Main Materials:
SUS304: The most common austenitic stainless steel. It offers excellent corrosion resistance in general environments, good formability, and high strength. It is used for medical devices that do not require the highest level of pitting and crevice corrosion resistance.
SUS316L: The premium and most widely used grade for implantable and critical surgical devices. The "L" denotes low carbon content (≤0.03%), which minimizes carbide precipitation during welding or processing, preventing susceptibility to intergranular corrosion. The addition of 2-3% Molybdenum (Mo) significantly enhances resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in chloride-rich environments (e.g., bodily fluids, saline).

High Strength & Ductility: Can be supplied in various "tempers" by controlling the amount of cold work:
Annealed (Soft): High ductility for complex forming.
Excellent Fabricability: Can be readily welded, machined, formed, and polished.
Non-Magnetic: Austenitic structure is essentially non-magnetic in the annealed state. Cold working can induce slight magnetism.
