Advantages of Socket Weld Fittings (SW) over Threaded or Butt-Weld
Leak-proof Integrity: No threaded connections mean a drastic reduction in leak paths. Highly reliable for hazardous or high-pressure fluids.
Fatigue Resistance: Better fatigue strength than threaded fittings due to the fillet weld geometry.
Simplified Alignment: Pipes do not require beveling (unlike butt-weld), simplifying fit-up. The pipe rests inside the socket, providing self-alignment.
Ideal for Small Bore Piping: Preferred choice for piping systems ≤ NPS 2" where butt-welding becomes economically unfeasible.

What it does in the Piping System?
As an Equal Tee, all three outlets are the same size. It is used for two primary functions:
Flow Branching (Splitting): It takes a single main flow from the "run" (straight-through direction) and diverts a portion of it at a 90-degree angle to the "branch" outlet. Because it is "equal," the branch has the same internal diameter as the main line, allowing a significant volume of fluid to be diverted.
Flow Merging (Combining): Conversely, it can take flows from two separate lines (one from the run, one from the branch) and combine them into a single outlet stream.
