Elbows are pipe fittings that change the direction of the pipeline in the pipeline system. According to the angle, the most commonly used ones are 45°, 90°, and 180°. In addition, according to the needs of the project, there are also 60° and other abnormal angles of elbows. The materials of elbows include cast iron, stainless steel, alloy steel, malleable cast iron, carbon steel, non-ferrous metals and plastics.
The ASTM A234 is a standard of pipe fitting material and WP9 is the grade. This material standard indicates that the fittings consist of various carbon steel and alloy steel. Different types of pipe fittings are available under this specification like reducer, tees, couplings, caps, etc., and each of them have varied functions.

Grades in ASTM A234
The ASTM A234 specification has many grades, such as WPB, WPC, WP5, WP9 WP11, WP12, WP22, WP91, etc.
Among these standards, WPB grade is the most common material used for medium and high temperature pipes. W stands for weldable, P stands for pressure, and B stands for b-grade, which refers to the minimum yield strength.
The raw material source of ASTM A234 WPB steel pipe fittings can be steel pipes, such as ASTM A106 Gr.B and C. It can also be steel plates, such as ASTM A285 Gr.C, ASTM A516 Gr 70, ASTM A572, etc.
