How do Insulin Needles work?
Insulin needles work by injecting insulin from the pen device into the subcutaneous tissue below the skin through a small-bore stainless steel needle tube.
Usage:
Shorter needles (4-6mm) are recommended for subcutaneous injections, especially in children and lean adults, to avoid intramuscular injection.
Longer needles (8-12.7mm) may be used for individuals with more subcutaneous fat.
Selection Criteria:
Body Type: Longer needles for higher body fat; shorter for leaner individuals.
Age/Comfort: Children may prefer higher gauges.
Injection Site: Rotation is crucial to prevent lipodystrophy (fatty lumps).
Injection Technique:
-Angle: 90-degree angle for 4-6mm needles without pinching; 45-degree or pinch technique for longer needles.
