ASME SB111 (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and ASTM B111 (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards specify the requirements for seamless copper and copper-alloy tubes used in heat exchangers, condensers, and other general engineering applications. Among the alloys covered by these standards, C70600 (90/10 Copper-Nickel alloy) is widely used due to its excellent mechanical properties and outstanding resistance to corrosion, especially in marine environments.

Key Features of C70600 (O61) Copper Alloy Seamless Tubes

Chemical Composition:
- Copper (Cu): 88.7% to 91.2%
- Nickel (Ni): 9.0% to 11.0% (including cobalt)
- Iron (Fe): 1.0% to 1.8%
- Manganese (Mn): 1.0% maximum
- Impurities such as lead, sulfur, and zinc are maintained at very low levels to ensure high quality.
Mechanical Properties (O61 Temper - Annealed Condition):
- Tensile Strength: 275 MPa (Min)
- Yield Strength (0.5% offset): 105 MPa (Min)
- Elongation: 40% (Min)
- Hardness: High toughness with good ductility, suitable for cold working.
Corrosion Resistance:
- Exceptional resistance to seawater corrosion, biofouling, and stress-corrosion cracking.
- Excellent performance in brackish and marine environments, making it ideal for heat exchangers and condensers in shipbuilding, desalination plants, and power plants.
Thermal and Electrical Conductivity:
- Good thermal conductivity ensures efficient heat transfer.
- Moderate electrical conductivity compared to pure copper due to the presence of nickel and iron.
Fabrication and Welding:
- Easily fabricated and formed into seamless tubes.
- Suitable for a wide range of welding methods, including TIG, MIG, and resistance welding.
