Product Specification

High Light steel structure aircraft hangar buildinglarge clear span aviation facilityaircraft maintenance steel hangar door system

This steel structure aircraft hangar building is engineered to deliver the massive clear-span interior volumes required for modern aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations. With column-free widths reaching up to 120 meters and door opening heights accommodating the largest commercial aircraft including Boeing 747, 777, and Airbus A380 series, this hangar structure provides unrestricted maneuverability for aircraft positioning, maintenance platform deployment, and ground support equipment movement within the hangar bay. The roof structure employs either a space frame system or mega truss configuration depending on the span requirements, with all structural elements designed to aviation facility standards.

The hangar door system is a critical engineered component integrated into the building structure design. Motorized sliding door leaves, typically configured in multiple telescoping panels, are suspended from a reinforced header beam and guided by floor tracks recessed into the hangar slab. Door operation is fully motorized with variable frequency drive control for smooth acceleration and deceleration of the massive door panels, complemented by manual override capability and safety sensors to prevent collisions. The door structure is designed to resist the specified wind loads in both open and closed positions, with wind lock systems engaging automatically when doors are in the parked position.

Key Features
  • Mega Clear Span Structure: Column-free interior spanning 40m to 120m achieved through long-span space frame or mega truss roof systems with optimized member sizing through finite element analysis, providing unrestricted aircraft movement and maintenance access across the entire hangar floor area.
  • Motorized Sliding Door System: Heavy-duty telescoping hangar door system with individual motorized panels suspended from a reinforced structural header, featuring VFD-controlled operation, obstruction detection sensors, wind-lock mechanisms, and manual override for emergency operation scenarios.
  • Tail Door Clearance Design: Structural geometry specifically designed to accommodate the vertical stabilizer height of target aircraft types when the aircraft is being towed through the door opening, with raked door header configurations that follow the aircraft tail profile to minimize overall building height and construction cost.
  • Overhead Crane Integration: Runway beam support structure integrated into the roof truss system for overhead bridge cranes used in engine replacement, component handling, and maintenance platform positioning, with crane capacities of 5-20 tons as required for aircraft maintenance operations.
  • Fire Protection System Compatibility: Structural fireproofing and sprinkler system integration designed to accommodate foam deluge fire suppression systems commonly specified for aircraft hangars, with adequate roof drainage, foam concentrate storage provisions, and containment bunding integrated into the facility design.
  • Natural Daylight Optimization: Strategically positioned translucent FRP roof panels combined with the clear-span configuration provide uniform natural daylight distribution across the hangar floor, reducing daytime lighting energy consumption while maintaining excellent visibility for detailed maintenance inspection tasks.
  • Ancillary Space Integration: The hangar structure accommodates attached workshop bays, parts storage mezzanines, administrative office spaces, and engineering support areas within the building footprint using intermediate floor systems and partition walls as required for complete aviation maintenance facility functionality.

Applications

This hangar structure is specifically designed for commercial airline MRO facilities, military airbase hangars, private and corporate jet storage and maintenance facilities, helicopter hangars, aviation training center hangars, aircraft painting and refinishing bays, and aerospace manufacturing final assembly buildings. The design accommodates all major commercial aircraft types with nose-in, tail-in, or angled parking configurations and provides flexibility for future aircraft fleet changes.

Packaging & Quality Assurance

Hangar structural components are fabricated under a rigorous quality assurance program appropriate for aviation-critical infrastructure. All primary truss members undergo 100% ultrasonic testing of full-penetration welds and magnetic particle inspection of fillet welds. Dimensional verification includes full trial assembly of critical truss connections at the factory. Surface preparation to SA 2.5 standard precedes duplex coating application with dry film thickness verification at multiple points per member. For international shipping, large truss sections are loaded onto flat-rack containers or open-top containers with custom steel support cradles. Detailed erection engineering including lifting studies, temporary bracing design, and sequential assembly procedures is provided for the contractor. We can deploy experienced hangar erection supervisors to oversee the critical truss lifting and door installation phases of construction.
