Seven particle size numbers of diamond polishing pads which are 50#, 100#, 200#, 400#, 800#, 1500#, 3000# are conventional polishing pads in the stone processing industry, also called the basic particle size. 2.800# diamond polishing pads

So it is a complex of "grinding effect & filling effect". The two functions exist at the same time.
3.1500-3000# diamond polishing pads
Diamond polishing pads of these particle sizes are mainly based on the release of resin in the polishing pads for filling process to form high gloss. The filling effect is dominant, and the grinding effect is still there, but it is very weak. The abrasive of polishing pads is very delicate, and the filling effect of the resin is strengthened to grind the stone out of high gloss.
