The single biggest difference between DDP to Canada and DDP to the United States is the importer qualification. Canada Customs (CBSA) expects a Canadian Business Number (BN) with an import/export program account for the Importer of Record (IOR), and GST/HST must be accounted for on the import. Under DDP those obligations are ours to manage—but they must be handled correctly from the first shipment.

We offer two paths. If you hold a Canadian BN with an import account, we clear under your account and handle every other obligation under DDP. If you do not, we can act as Importer of Record under our own qualification so you can ship before registering a BN; where you import regularly, we guide you through obtaining one.

Two equipment types carry almost all of our China to Canada FCL cargo. Choosing between them is about volume, weight and road limits more than preference.

Canada road weight limits matter here. A fully loaded 40HQ can exceed the maximum gross vehicle weight permitted on Canadian highways once the chassis and tractor are included, and several provinces enforce these limits strictly with overweight penalties. Because our service runs door to door, we check the payload against the destination province’s road limits before loading, so a container is never built to a weight that is legal at sea but illegal on the road to Toronto.

Double clearance means both ends are cleared within the same contract: export clearance in China and import clearance in Canada. You do not appoint a second broker at destination, and you are not asked to reconcile a separate duty or tax invoice later. Customs clearance included means classification support, pre-arrival filing and release coordination are owned by us.

On the tax side, GST/HST is calculated and paid by us under DDP terms and built into your landed cost. The applicable tax may be GST at 5% or a harmonised HST rate, and we confirm the treatment before booking. The value of GST/HST Included is that the true cost of the goods is known at the time of the quote.

LCL is useful for test or low-volume shipments, where sharing container space keeps the entry unit cost low. FCL becomes the better choice once volume is steady, because a dedicated container lowers the per-unit cost, reduces handling and damage risk, and gives you control of loading and delivery timing.

DDU—delivered duty unpaid—stops short of clearing customs and paying duty and tax. Under DDU the buyer is responsible for clearance, duty and domestic handling, and therefore needs an importer qualification and a destination broker. Under DDP those obligations sit with us and the buyer simply receives the cargo. For new importers, or any import where landed cost must be predictable, DDP is normally the simpler and safer structure.

Does DDP cover GST? Yes. Applicable GST or HST is calculated and paid by us and included in your landed cost. The rate depends on the province and the goods, confirmed at quoting.

What is included in a DDP quote? Export clearance, origin handling, ocean freight, destination terminal handling, customs clearance, duty and GST/HST, inland transfer and final delivery to Toronto. Insurance and specialized equipment are separate.

Do I need a Canadian tax ID (BN)? It helps, but you can ship before you have one. We clear under your BN if you hold one, or act as Importer of Record under our own qualification and help you obtain a BN.

What is the difference between DDP and DDU? DDP includes clearance, duty and tax; DDU leaves those with the buyer. DDP gives one all-in delivered price and no separate broker at destination.
