The furnace operates as a DC submerged arc resistance furnace with three graphite electrodes submerged in the slag layer. The electric current passes through the slag, generating resistance heat that maintains a stable smelting temperature of 1550-1750°C. Vanadium-titanium magnetite concentrate is continuously fed and undergoes carbothermic reduction: iron oxides are reduced to molten iron, vanadium oxides are reduced and enriched in the iron phase, while titanium oxides concentrate in the slag phase.
