1.Basic principles
Refining principle: While decarbonizing, the high temperature and specific slag composition in the furnace are utilized to oxidize other impurities (such as silicon, phosphorus, etc.) in the manganese iron and enter the slag, achieving refining of the manganese iron and improving product quality.


2.Structural composition
Furnace body: Generally constructed with high-quality refractory materials to withstand high temperatures and erosion from slag. The furnace body is usually circular or elliptical, with different capacity specifications, commonly ranging from a few tons to tens of tons. The furnace shell is generally made of steel plate, which plays a role in protecting the furnace lining and supporting it.
Electrode system: Usually graphite electrodes or self baking electrodes are used. The electrode is connected to the power source through a conductive device, which introduces electrical energy into the furnace and generates an arc between the electrode and the furnace charge, providing the high temperature required for smelting. The number, diameter, and arrangement of electrodes depend on the capacity and process requirements of the electric furnace, and commonly there are three electrodes arranged in a triangular shape.
Furnace top device: including feeding port, exhaust port, observation hole, etc. The feeding port is used to add furnace materials into the furnace, the exhaust port is used to discharge the waste gas generated during the smelting process, and the observation hole is convenient for operators to observe the reaction situation inside the furnace. The furnace top is also equipped with a sealing device to ensure stable atmosphere and pressure inside the furnace.
Iron outlet and slag outlet: The iron outlet is located on one side of the bottom of the furnace and is used to discharge the smelted medium low carbon manganese iron alloy liquid. The slag outlet is used to discharge the slag generated during the smelting process, usually located at a higher position in the furnace body, in order to discharge most of the slag before tapping.
Electrical system: composed of transformers, control cabinets, conductive busbars, etc. The transformer converts high-voltage electrical energy into low-voltage high current suitable for the operation of the electric furnace. The control cabinet is used to control the input power, voltage, current and other parameters of the electric furnace, and adjust them accurately according to the needs of the smelting process to ensure the stable operation of the electric furnace.
