High Tensile Strength & Low Elongation:
The primary advantage.
Polyester has a very high tensile strength and a very low strain (elongation) at peak load,
typically between 10% and 13%.
This means it can withstand enormous pulling forces without stretching excessively, providing excellent restraint.
Uniaxial Strength Orientation:
Its structure is optimized to provide maximum strength in one direction (the "machine direction"),
with significantly lower strength in the perpendicular direction (the "cross-machine direction").
Durability:
Excellent Creep Resistance: Polyester has superior resistance to creep (long-term stretching under constant load)
compared to polypropylene (PP) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) geogrids. This is critical for permanent structures.
Robust Coating:
The polymer coating protects the sensitive polyester fibers from installation damage, abrasion, UV radiation, and chemical attack from soil environments.
Aperture Stability:
The rigid, coated junctions provide excellent interlock with granular fill materials (like gravel, crushed stone, or soil).
Flexibility:
Despite its high strength, it is flexible enough to be rolled and unrolled, conforming to subgrade irregularities during installation.

and improving its load-bearing capacity.

Polyester Geogrids Application :
The Knitted BX PET Polyester Geogrid is a versatile workhorse used in many of the applications we've already discussed:
Road and Highway Base Reinforcement:
Placed on the subgrade before the aggregate base course is laid.
It confines the aggregate, reduces rutting, and allows for a thinner base layer, leading to significant cost savings.
Railway Track Bed Stabilization:
Placed between the subgrade and the ballast layer.
It prevents the ballast from penetrating the soft subsoil and the subsoil from pumping up into the ballast,
maintaining track geometry and reducing maintenance.
Foundation Mattresses for Embankments:
Used to build stable embankments over very soft soils by distributing the load over a wider area.
Soil Stabilization for Working Platforms:
Creates a stable platform for construction equipment on sites with weak soils.
Note on Retaining Walls: While exceptionally strong, a standard biaxial (BX) geogrid is often used for
stabilization. For the highest, most critical retaining walls, a uniaxial geogrid (which concentrates strength
primarily in one, longitudinal direction) is often preferred, as that is the direction of the tensile forces
in an MSE wall. However, BX grids are still successfully used in many wall applications.
