MPO/ MTP is a very high-density fiber optic connector that is double the size of an LC while having the capacity to contain from 8 fibers to 72 fibers. This makes it an extremely space-saving solution for data centers.
The connection principle is that the same core number connector must be connected. This means 12 cores with 12 cores, 24 cores with 24 cores, etc. Male connectors must be mated with female connectors with the same polishing types - either PC to PC or APC to APC. Female MPO MTP connectors cannot be connected and PC polishing cannot be connected to APC polishing.
When choosing an MPO patch cord, you should know the gender and polarity of the MPO MTP connectors in your data center. For example, if the MPO MTP connector is a male type then you must purchase a female type MPO MTP patch cord in order for them to be connected together.
