ASTM A179 extruded finned tubes are widely used in air-cooled heat exchangers and industrial cooling equipment requiring high thermal efficiency and long-term reliability. Manufactured from ASTM A179 seamless low-carbon steel tubes as the base tube, these finned tubes feature an integrally formed aluminum outer fin layer created through a cold extrusion process.

Manufacturing Process

Extruded finned tubes are produced through a cold-forming process:

  1. An aluminum sleeve is fitted over the ASTM A179 seamless tube.
  2. Specialized extrusion rollers apply controlled pressure.
  3. The aluminum sleeve is plastically deformed outward.
  4. Integral fins are formed continuously along the tube length.
  5. The remaining aluminum beneath the fins creates a protective outer sheath around the base tube.
