What is a Kettle Type Reboiler?

A Kettle Type Reboiler is a specialized shell-and-tube heat exchanger used for reboiling applications in chemical, petrochemical, and oil & gas industries. It works by vaporizing a portion of the bottom liquid from a distillation column to provide the necessary heat for the separation process.

These kettle type reboilers are designed around stable vapor generation: the large liquid hold-up and vapor disengagement space keep entrainment low and downstream distillation performance predictable. Material selection is application-driven, with Monel 400, titanium, Inconel, duplex stainless steel or Hastelloy available for corrosive or high-purity services, and the design follows API 660 requirements with CE certification. The bundle is removable, so inspection and cleaning do not require lifting the whole shell, which shortens maintenance windows in fouling service.
