Technical Highlights: Design Features to Extend Heat Exchanger Life
Pre-reserved location for sacrificial anodes: In seawater or brackish water coolers, even with copper-nickel alloys, pre-reserved mounting holes for replaceable zinc anodes in the tube box or tube sheet effectively protect the tube sheet and tube ends, extending life by more than 30%.
Shell-side venting and draining ports: Installing venting and draining valves of DN20 or larger at the highest and lowest points of the shell side during design can completely eliminate air resistance during startup and liquid accumulation after shutdown, avoiding cavitation and dead zone corrosion.
Tube Bundle Removal Guide Device: For large floating head heat exchangers, adding slide rails or guide bars inside the shell can significantly reduce mechanical damage to baffles and tubes during tube bundle removal and installation.
Warning Signals During Heat Exchanger Operation (and Countermeasures)
Outlet Temperature Deviates from Design Value: If the hot fluid outlet temperature increases (insufficient cooling) or decreases (insufficient heating), first suspect tube bundle scaling or shell-side bypass leakage. Countermeasure: Check for increased pressure drop; plan chemical or mechanical cleaning.
Abnormally Increased Pressure Difference Between Tube Side and Shell Side: A significant increase in pressure difference usually indicates blockage in the tube bundle or shell-side channels. Countermeasure: Backflushing or disassembly and inspection.
Slight Leakage at Tube Sheet or Shell Flange: This may be due to aging gaskets or loose bolt preload. Countermeasure: Tighten bolts appropriately while hot; if ineffective, replace gaskets. Never tighten under pressure; depressurize according to procedures before operation.

Typical Applications and Selection Recommendations
