Technical Overview & Engineering Capability

YUHONG HOLDING GROUP CO., LTD. manufactures specialized heat transfer hardware—including shell and tube heat exchangers, pressure vessels, cracking furnace coil supports, and precision internal bundles. To ensure structural integrity under severe thermal exposure, we produce certified Alloy 617 (UNS N06617 / 2.4663) solid studs, shear pins, and refractory anchors.
Engineered for arc-welding or pin-positioning onto shell interiors, tubesheets, and baffle assemblies, these nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy components provide exceptional resistance to high-temperature oxidation, carburization, and creep rupture at temperatures exceeding 1000°C.

Thermal Resistance & Metallurgy

In ethylene cracking furnaces, steam reformers, and ultra-high temperature gas-to-gas exchangers, conventional austenitic stainless steels (such as 310S or 316H) lose structural capacity due to grain growth, severe scaling, and rapid thermal creep. Alloy 617 overcomes these thermal boundaries through a precise alloy matrix:

  • High-Temperature Creep Strength: Solid-solution strengthening from Cobalt (12.5%) and Molybdenum (9.0%) delivers exceptional creep-rupture strength at temperatures above 870°C.

  • Oxidation & Carburization Resistance: High Chromium (22.0%) combined with Aluminum (1.2%) forms a tough, self-passivating surface oxide scale that resists cyclic thermal shock and carbon ingress in hydrocarbon cracking atmospheres.

  • Structural Stability: Resistant to metallurgical phase embrittlement during prolonged exposure in the 600°C to 1000°C critical embrittlement range.

High-Temperature Process Applications

Alloy 617 studs and pins are specified for high-consequence internal anchoring and structural alignment across critical thermal processing hardware:

  • Ethylene Cracking Furnaces & Reformers: Used as weld-on refractory anchoring pins and radiant coil guide studs, enduring direct flame impingement and cyclic decoking processes.

  • Ultra-High Temperature Heat Exchangers (VHTR / Helium Coolers): Applied as internal baffle locking pins and tube bundle tie-rod anchors operating above 900°C.

  • Impact Plate & Erosion Shield Fastening: Secures internal impingement plates directly upstream of high-velocity process gas inlets to protect heat exchanger tubes from thermal erosion.

Engineering Advantages & Custom Processing
  • Full Heat Traceability: Every pin is laser-etched with the alloy designation and furnace melt heat number to meet strict ASME Section VIII Division 1 and PED 2014/68/EU quality assurance rules.

  • Precision Machined Ends: Weld ends are chamfered or prepared for automatic capacitor discharge (CD) or drawn arc stud welding, ensuring full-penetration fusion without metallurgical porosity.

  • Custom Sleeve & Spacer Integration: Supplied as integrated kits with matching Alloy 617 bushings, washers, or alignment spacers for exact tube bundle clearance control.

Technical Insights & Materials Selection FAQs
Why is Inconel 617 preferred over Inconel 600 or Incoloy 800H for cracking furnace refractory pins?

While Incoloy 800H and Inconel 600 perform well up to 815°C, their creep-rupture strength drops significantly above 900°C. Inconel 617 contains cobalt and molybdenum, offering more than double the allowable design stress of Alloy 800H at 980°C under ASME Code Case 1982. This prevents pin bending, refractory liner detachment, and costly emergency shutdowns in cracking furnaces.

How do you prevent weld-zone cracking when welding Alloy 617 studs to carbon or stainless steel exchanger shells?

When joining Alloy 617 studs to lower-alloy shell materials (such as SA516-70 or 304H), buttering layers or specialized nickel-base filler metals (such as ERNiCrCoMo-1) must be used to absorb thermal expansion mismatches. Additionally, low heat input during stud welding avoids hot-cracking in the heat-affected zone (HAZ).
