Lock bolt : Primarily composed of a pin. The pin is typically manufactured from high-strength materials such as alloy steel or titanium, featuring locking grooves or serrations along its length. These grooves are the critical component, enabling the collar to deform and embed during installation, thereby forming a secure mechanical lock. The head shape may be flat, large flat, countersunk, or other variations.
Collar: Generally crafted from a material slightly softer than the pin, it fits snugly over the pin. During installation, the collar is compressed into the pin's serrations, creating a tight, vibration-resistant connection point.
Features:
Excellent vibration resistance: The connection formed by the close interlocking of the ferrule and the pin groove effectively withstands vibration impacts, preventing loosening at the joint. This makes it particularly suitable for environments with intense vibration.
High connection strength: Ring groove rivets possess high shear and tensile strength, delivering stable and enduring clamping force to ensure the structural integrity and reliability of the joint.
Quick and easy installation: Compared to traditional bolt-nut connections requiring complex tightening operations or additional anti-loosening components, the installation process for ring groove rivets using specialised tools is significantly simpler, effectively enhancing assembly efficiency.
Maintenance-free: Once the connection is complete, no subsequent maintenance tasks such as retightening are required, reducing both operational costs and labour input.
Working Principle:
First, precisely drill holes in the materials to be joined. Insert the pin of the ring-groove rivet into the hole, ensuring the pin shank protrudes beyond the material. Next, place the ring over the exposed end of the pin. Finally, using a specialised installation tool, grip the pin shank and pull it taut while simultaneously pressing the ring into the groove of the pin, thereby achieving a secure fastening.

Owing to their numerous advantages, lock bolts and collars find extensive application across multiple industries. In aerospace, they are employed for connecting structural components such as wings to fuselages; within the automotive sector, they are suitable for assembling chassis components and suspension systems; and in the construction industry, they serve to connect and secure structural elements like steel beams.
