Niobium is a transition metal element. Niobium is a lustrous grey metal. High purity niobium metal has high ductility, but will harden with the increase of impurity content. Niobium has a very low cross-section for thermal neutrons and is therefore of considerable use in the nuclear industry. Niobium is a metallic element. The main minerals are niobite, pyroclase and black gold ore, yttrium niobium, tantalite, titanium, niobium, calcium and cerium ore.
