EPDM vs Nitrile (NBR): While Nitrile is the best choice for oil and fuel contact, it has very poor resistance to weather and sunlight. EPDM outlasts Nitrile significantly in any outdoor or water based application.
EPDM vs Silicone: Silicone can handle higher temperatures but is very soft and easily torn. EPDM offers much better mechanical strength and abrasion resistance, making it better for moving parts.

Question 2: Does EPDM crack when exposed to direct sunlight?
Answer: No. Unlike natural rubber or Nitrile, EPDM has a saturated polymer backbone that prevents UV rays from breaking the molecular bonds. This makes it highly resistant to the cracking commonly seen in outdoor seals.
Question 3: Can I use these O rings for steam pipes?
Answer: Yes, EPDM is excellent for steam applications. It remains stable in high temperature water and steam environments up to 150 degrees Celsius.
