1. What is the primary advantage of the brass anti-extrusion ring?
The brass ring provides a physical barrier that prevents the Nitrile rubber from being forced into the small gaps between the metal pipe ends at high pressures. This significantly reduces the risk of seal failure and extends the operational life of the gasket in 10,000 and 15,000 PSI services.
2. Can these NBR seals be used for sour gas H2S service?
Standard NBR is optimized for oil and water based fluids. For high concentrations of sour gas H2S, it is generally recommended to use HNBR or FKM materials.
3. Are these seals interchangeable with all-rubber seals?
Yes, these seals are designed to the same dimensional specifications as standard all-rubber lip seals. You can upgrade your existing Fig 1502 or Fig 1002 unions with these brass backed seals without any modifications to your current hardware.
4. Why use NBR instead of other elastomers?
NBR (Nitrile) is the industry standard due to its exceptional resistance to oil and fuel, combined with high tensile strength and abrasion resistance. It provides the best balance of performance and cost efficiency for the majority of oilfield fluid transfer applications.
