Powder Coated BTB Double Strut Channel 41x82mm

This is our back to back double strut channel, formed from two C profiles joined web to web into a single 41x82mm box like member, then finished with a sand textured matte powder coat. It is made for the jobs where a single 41x41 channel is not stiff enough and where the steel stays visible: coastal solar frames, facade louvre supports, canopy steelwork and walkway handrail posts. One member replaces two single channels plus the spacers and through bolts, so the installer handles one line item and one fixing line.

What This Product Solves

1. Double Section, Double Stiffness in One Member

Joining two profiles web to web moves material away from the neutral axis and closes the open C into a box, so bending stiffness and torsional resistance rise sharply against a single channel of the same wall thickness. Longer spans become possible with fewer drop rods and fewer base plates, which usually saves more money than the difference in steel price.

Values are indicative for preliminary sizing. Final section selection must be confirmed against your span, load and fixing layout by the project engineer.

2. Sand Textured Matte Finish Hides Site Damage

The texture is not only cosmetic. A matte, slightly rough surface scatters light, so it does not show the glare, fingerprints and trolley scuffs that a glossy smooth film shows after a few weeks on site. Small scratches stay inside the texture instead of reading as a bright line, which keeps exposed architectural steelwork looking consistent until handover and beyond.

3. Coating System Built for Coastal and Industrial Air

We use a hydroxyl alkyl  cured polyester powder, the more durable family used for exterior aluminium and steel, at 80-120 micron. Combined with phosphating pretreatment this reaches 1000 hours neutral salt spray and 500 hours QUV accelerated weathering, so the film keeps colour and gloss far longer than a standard interior grade powder.

4. Fabricated Before Coating, Not After

Cutting, slotting, drilling, welded base plates, welded angle brackets and end caps are all completed before the coating line. Every cut edge and weld is coated, so the installer does not need to touch up bare edges on a scaffold. This is the main reason fabricated double channel arrives genuinely ready to bolt down.

5. One Line Item Instead of Three

Instead of ordering two single channels, a spacer kit and a set of through bolts, the buyer orders one BTB member with one part number. Purchasing, packing and site reconciliation all get simpler, and the risk of a spacer shortage stopping the installation is removed.

6. Colour and Gloss Locked to the Project Sample

Standard range covers RAL 7016, RAL 9005, RAL 7021, RAL 7035 and RAL 9010 in matte texture, with other RAL references and gloss levels on production run. A physical approved sample is kept in our file and the production batch is compared against it before packing.

Packing, MOQ and Schedule

• Delivery: 15-20 days for stock colours, 25-30 days for custom colour plus welded fabrication.
• Documents: mill certificate, coating thickness and adhesion report, salt spray report on request, packing list, invoice.

FAQ

Q: Is the joint welded or just pressed together?
A: The two profiles are mechanically interlocked along the full length and stitch welded at both ends of every piece, so the member behaves as one unit in handling and in service.

Q: Can the base plate be welded on before coating?
A: Yes, and that is the recommended route. Send the plate size, hole layout and weld position, and the whole assembly is coated as one part.

Q: How does this compare in price with two single channels?
A: Per metre it costs more than one single channel but less than two singles plus a spacer kit and the extra bolts, and it removes one installation step. We will quote both options if you send the layout.

Q: Can I get a smooth gloss finish instead of texture?
A: Yes, smooth gloss is available. We recommend texture for exposed outdoor work because it hides handling marks better.

Q: Do you supply matching fittings in the same colour?
A: Yes, channel nuts, brackets and end caps can be coated in the same batch colour so the finished frame is uniform.
