Working Principle
A pendulum hammer with predefined energy strikes the horizontally supported specimen beam, fracturing the sample in a single blow. The impact point sits midway between the two supports. By calculating the discrepancy in pendulum energy before and after impact, the energy absorbed by the specimen upon fracture is obtained. Impact strength value is derived from the original cross-sectional area of the test sample.
