By adopting the advanced tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) technology, which is mainly applied to the detection of gas pipeline leaks, Discovery-ME1 can simultaneously measure the methane and ethane contents. It can be used to distinguish between natural gas and biogas.
