Gypsum vertical mill, also commonly known as vertical roller mill, is the core equipment in modern gypsum powder production lines.
It is mainly used to process lump gypsum—including natural gypsum, desulfurized gypsum, and phosphogypsum—into gypsum
powder through rolling, grinding, and drying. This gypsum powder is then used to make products such as building gypsum and
gypsum boards.

I. Core Working Principle
The operation of a vertical mill integrates rolling, grinding, drying, and classifying in one process:
Feeding and Conveying: After being crushed, lump gypsum is fed into the vertical mill by an air-lock feeder and falls onto the center of the rotating grinding disc.
Rolling and Grinding: Driven by a motor, the grinding disc rotates and drives the gypsum materials on it. The hydraulic system applies pressure to make the grinding rollers cling tightly to the material layer. Materials are crushed between the grinding rollers and the disc.
Hot Air Drying: Hot air (from a hot air furnace or industrial waste heat) enters from the bottom of the vertical mill and fully contacts the crushed materials, quickly drying the moisture in them.
Classifying and Collecting: The dried fine powder is carried by the hot air to the classifier at the top for separation. Qualified fine powder (finished product) is blown into a dust collector (such as a bag filter) and collected; unqualified coarse powder falls back to the grinding disc for re-grinding.
II. Main Equipment Structure
A typical gypsum vertical mill mainly consists of the following components:
Grinding Disc: The core component that carries materials and rotates.
Grinding Rollers: Usually 2 to 4 in number, used for rolling and crushing materials.
Reducer: Reduces the motor speed and provides high torque for the grinding disc.
Classifier: Located at the top of the mill, it can be dynamic or static, and is used to control the fineness of the finished product.
Hydraulic System: Provides grinding pressure for the grinding rollers, and can automatically lift or lower the rollers for maintenance.
Motor: The power source of the equipment.
Machine Shell and Foundation: Supports and seals the entire system.
