A WAVEGUIDE ISOLATOR is a two‑port non‑reciprocal ferrite device.
A WAVEGUIDE ISOLATOR allows microwave energy to pass with very low loss in the forward direction.
In the reverse direction, a WAVEGUIDE ISOLATOR provides very high attenuation (isolation).
A WAVEGUIDE ISOLATOR is essentially a WAVEGUIDE CIRCULATOR with one port permanently terminated internally by a WAVEGUIDE LOAD.
Therefore, a WAVEGUIDE ISOLATOR has only one useful transmission path: input to output.
A WAVEGUIDE ISOLATOR uses a magnetically biased ferrite element to create non‑reciprocal phase shift.
Because of this property, a WAVEGUIDE ISOLATOR behaves like a microwave diode — it conducts power one way and blocks it the other way.
