51.2V 400Ah Modular Residential Battery with CAN RS485 for Hybrid Inverters

A Four-Module Battery Platform for Inverter-Based Residential Systems

This 51.2V 400Ah modular residential battery is intended for installers and system integrators building higher-capacity home energy storage systems around compatible hybrid or off-grid inverters.

The battery bank combines four 51.2V 100Ah modules and provides 20.48kWh of nominal energy. The modular arrangement allows the complete bank to be assembled from defined 5.12kWh battery units rather than one oversized enclosure.

Optional CAN and RS485 communication can support data exchange with selected inverter systems. Compatibility depends on the protocol, firmware, cable pin definition and configuration of the exact inverter model.

Four Checks Before Approving the Inverter Match

Confirm the Battery Voltage Range

The inverter must support a nominal 51.2V lithium battery and remain compatible with the full 40.0–58.4Vdc operating window.

Review the Charging Profile

The charger should support the listed 56.0V floating-charge voltage and keep continuous charging current at or below 200A.

Calculate Maximum DC Demand

The inverter’s continuous battery-side current must remain within the combined bank’s 400A continuous discharge limit.

Verify CAN or RS485 Compatibility

A matching communication-port name is not sufficient. The protocol, cable wiring, firmware and operating settings must also be compatible.

Coordinate Four Modules as One Battery Bank

All four modules must be installed as a coordinated battery-bank configuration. Module voltage, connection sequence, cable routing and protection arrangements should be reviewed before the bank is connected to the inverter.

Battery interconnection cables should use suitable conductor sizes and practical cable lengths. Balanced connection planning helps reduce avoidable differences in resistance and voltage drop between the modules.

Each module uses M6 battery terminals. Correctly sized cable lugs, secure mechanical connections and suitable protection devices are required for the configured current.

The system includes an LCD interface for local access to supported operating information. CAN and RS485 communication remain optional configurations and should be specified before production.

Plan Continuous Current from the Inverter Load

The battery bank supports up to 400A of continuous discharge. The inverter’s maximum DC demand should be calculated from its expected AC load, conversion efficiency and low-voltage operating condition.

The listed 600A pulse capability applies for one second only. It may provide temporary current headroom during a compatible short-duration demand, but it must not be treated as the continuous operating rating.

Cables, busbars, breakers, fuses and disconnect equipment should be selected according to the 400A continuous rating, configured current, cable length, installation method and allowable voltage drop.

BMS Protection and Communication Boundaries

The battery-management system includes protection for overcharge, overdischarge, overcurrent, short-circuit and overtemperature conditions. These functions help keep the modules within their documented operating limits.

BMS protection does not replace suitable DC design. Inverter settings, breakers, fuses, cable sizes, terminal connections and installation conditions must still be selected correctly.

When communication compatibility is not confirmed, installers should not assume that state-of-charge reporting, battery alarms or automatic charging control will be exchanged with the inverter.

Provide the inverter brand, exact model, firmware version and supported battery protocol before production when CAN or RS485 communication is required.

Will CAN or RS485 work with every hybrid inverter?

No. The protocol, cable pin definition, inverter firmware and equipment settings must all be compatible.

Are the CAN and RS485 interfaces standard?

No. They are optional communication interfaces and should be specified when the battery configuration is confirmed.

Can the battery bank connect to any inverter power rating?

No. The inverter’s maximum battery-side current must remain compatible with the 400A continuous limit and the selected DC components.

Should the DC cables be selected for 600A?

Continuous system components should be selected from the 400A continuous rating and applicable installation requirements. The 600A value lasts one second.

What inverter information is required for compatibility checking?

Provide the inverter brand, exact model, firmware, battery-voltage range, charging-current limit and supported CAN or RS485 protocol.
