Q1: What tools do I need to install this rivet?
A: You only need a hex key (Allen wrench) of the corresponding size (typically 2.5mm or 3mm) for the head and a small screwdriver or your fingers to hold the screw post from the back.
Q2: Is this stronger than a traditional snap rivet?
A: Yes, for tensile strength (pulling apart). The screw thread creates a strong mechanical lock. Traditional rivets can be stronger for shear forces (side-to-side movement), but these are excellent for most bag and strap applications.
Q3: What is the total thickness (grip range) it can fasten?
A: The screw post length is the limiting factor. A 12mm post is suitable for material stacks up to approximately 8-10mm thick. Always check the post length against your material thickness.
Q4: Can I use this on thin leather or fabric?
A: It's best for medium to thick materials (2mm+). For very thin material, the screw may not have enough to grip, or you may need to use a washer on the backside.
Q5: Will the screw back come loose over time?
A: When properly tightened, it is very secure. For high-vibration applications, you can apply a drop of low-strength thread locker (e.g., Loctite 222) to the threads.
Q6: Is the black finish durable or will it scratch off?
A: The zinc plating is moderately durable. It may wear or scratch if abraded heavily against rough surfaces, but it holds up well to normal use. For maximum durability, consider stainless steel.
