Partially Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide (PHPA), also known as partially hydrolyzed PAM, is a water-soluble polymer widely applied in oilfield drilling fluids to enhance fluid stability, control solids behavior, and protect wellbore integrity.

With its anionic character and high molecular weight structure, PHPA provides balanced performance in viscosity control, shale stabilization, fluid loss reduction, and lubrication.
As a water-soluble polymer, PHPA disperses uniformly in drilling fluids and interacts effectively with clay particles, cuttings, and formation surfaces. Its key functional mechanisms include:
