Pelton turbine is a type of impulse turbine, which was developed by the American inventor Lester Allen Pelton in the 1870s. The Pelton-type water turbine uses water to flow and impact the waterwheel to obtain energy, which is different from the traditional jet waterwheel that uses the weight of water to drive it. Before Pelton's design was published, there were many different versions of impulse turbines, but their work efficiency was lower than that of Pelton's design. After the water leaves the waterwheel, the water usually still has speed, which wastes much of the kinetic energy of the waterwheel. Pelton’s oar geometry design allows the moving wheel to run after half the speed of the water jet and leave the moving wheel at a very low speed; therefore, Pelton’s design almost completely captures the impact energy of the water, so that it can Have a high-efficiency water turbine.
