Product Description

A pipeline tee often wears faster than the straight pipe around it. When abrasive material splits, changes direction, or enters through a branch, turbulence and concentrated particle impact can attack the junction, the opposite wall, and exposed ceramic edges.

This custom alumina ceramic lined tee is designed for abrasive material conveying systems where these local wear problems cannot be solved by an unprotected steel fitting. The steel tee carries the mechanical load, while the internal ceramic lining forms a hard, smooth working surface against abrasion.

The tee dimensions, branch angle, steel material, ceramic grade, lining thickness, and connections can be customized according to drawings and operating conditions.

Why Does a Tee Wear Differently from a Straight Pipe?

Material normally moves in a more stable direction inside a straight pipe. At a tee, the flow pattern becomes more complicated.

Depending on the conveying direction, serious wear may develop at:

  • The wall opposite the incoming material
  • The entrance to the branch pipe
  • The internal junction where the flows split or merge
  • Sudden changes in finished internal diameter
  • Ceramic joints or cut edges facing the material flow
  • Flange ends and transitions to adjacent pipe sections

A uniform lining thickness does not always provide uniform protection. The high-wear side may require a different ceramic layout, smaller tile sections, or local reinforcement.


The Most Important Detail Is the Tee Junction

The internal junction is usually more difficult to line than the straight sections. Ceramic pieces must follow the tee geometry without leaving wide gaps, raised edges, or exposed steel.

At the branch intersection, smaller or specially shaped ceramic pieces may be required to create a smoother transition. Ceramic joints should be arranged so that the material does not strike an elevated edge directly.

Simply increasing the ceramic thickness cannot correct a poor transition. If the finished bore changes suddenly, the resulting turbulence may create a new wear point. The lining design must therefore consider ceramic thickness and the final internal flow path together.


Which Lining Method Can Be Used?

Bonded Ceramic Tiles

Bonded alumina ceramic tiles are suitable for most customized tee geometries. Individual pieces can be cut and arranged around the main pipe, branch, and junction. Steel-surface preparation, adhesive selection, joint control, and installation quality are critical.

Weldable Ceramic Tiles

Weldable tiles can be considered where higher temperature, vibration, or stronger mechanical retention makes bonding alone insufficient. Welding improves the fixing reliability but does not make ordinary alumina ceramic resistant to every level of direct impact.

Custom-Formed Ceramic Sections

Integral or specially formed ceramic components may be used when the tee dimensions and manufacturing conditions allow. They can reduce the number of joints in selected areas, but dimensional accuracy, assembly space, and the transition between ceramic sections must be checked before production.

The final lining method should be selected according to the tee geometry and wear mechanism rather than pipe diameter alone.

These values describe the ceramic material itself. The operating capability of the complete ceramic-lined tee also depends on the steel body, fixing method, pressure design, temperature, vibration, impact, and connection structure.

What Can Be Customized?

Customization can include:

  • Main pipe and branch diameter
  • Equal or reducing tee configuration
  • Branch angle and overall dimensions
  • Carbon steel or stainless steel body
  • Ceramic grade and thickness
  • Bonded, weldable, or combined lining structure
  • Local reinforcement at high-wear positions
  • Required finished internal diameter
  • Flanged, welded, or customized connections

The steel tee wall thickness, flange standard, and pressure rating must meet the pipeline design. The ceramic lining provides wear protection and should not be used to compensate for an unsuitable steel structure.


Where Can Ceramic-Lined Tees Be Used?

Ceramic-lined tees can be considered for conveying fly ash, pulverized coal, cement raw meal, mineral powder, granules, slurry, and other abrasive media in thermal power, cement, steel, mining, coal handling, port, chemical, and mineral-processing systems.

For severe direct impact, large sharp particles, strong corrosion, high temperature, or frequent thermal cycling, the ceramic material and fixing structure should be evaluated separately.

The white appearance of the lining does not by itself determine ceramic quality. Alumina content, density, hardness, dimensions, and inspection requirements should be confirmed according to the project specification.
